The same great formula in a size that goes wherever you do
There’s a moment most horse owners will recognise. You need your horse to stand still, stay calm, or just be somewhere other than in your way and nothing you do quite hits the mark. Maybe it’s a farrier visit and your mare has decided today is the day she’d rather be anywhere else. Maybe it’s a physio session and your gelding is more interested in the gate than the treatment. Maybe it’s a long journey and your youngster is working themselves into a state two hours before you arrive.
That’s the moment Mini Horslyx was made for.
Everything you know about Horslyx in a 650g block
Mini Horslyx is the same formula as the 5kg and 15kg licks. The same ingredients, the same ratios, the same nutritional profile. The only thing that’s different is the size.
We know this comes as a surprise to a lot of people. Because the Mini is labelled as a complementary feed rather than a balancer (as the 5kg is labelled), it can look like a different product on the shelf. It isn’t. What’s inside is identical. The Mini exists because the full-size lick, brilliant as it is, doesn’t always fit the situation and we didn’t want the format to limit who could benefit from the formula.
So, if you’ve ever wondered whether you’re getting something lesser in a smaller package: you’re not. Same Horslyx, same quality, same care just easier to carry, hang, and use in the situations where you need it most.
Whether it’s a 650g Mini or a 15kg block, every lick delivers the same Horslyx formula your horse knows and trusts
From the people who use it every day
We asked two of our equine professionals who come at horse care from very different angles to share how Mini Horslyx fits into their work. Their answers are a reminder of just how versatile a product this is.
Katie Dorman – An ACPAT Chartered Physiotherapist based in the North East of England. With over 15 year’s experience specialising in Equine Physiotherapy working with a range of horses from retirees to 5* event horses.
Horslyx have been a part of my tool kit for a long time. I treat a variety of horses with different personalities and conditions; some can be anxious and restless and I find using a Horlyx can help them to relax. When a horse is relaxed it moves calmly and allows me to perform a thorough assessment which then means they get the best possible outcomes from treatment. I recently treat an ex-racehorse, we were unsure if she had ever seen a physio before and she was extremely anxious to the point she was shaking. We introduced the Horslyx before starting any hands on treatments, she quickly became calm and relaxed which allowed me to give her the treatment she needed.
As well as being a useful tool for relaxing horses and encouraging them to stand still for treatment I regularly use and recommend Horslyx to perform exercises routinely and for rehabilitation. I find horses do not snatch for the Hoyslyx like they sometimes do for a treat which then allows me to perform a more controlled stretch that I can hold for longer. Some of the exercise programmes I prescribe can have more than a total of 20 repetitions of exercises which if using treats would require 20, I find when using a lick they consume much less which is often important, particularly in horses with a controlled diet.

When working with horses, behaviour is not a thing that can be guaranteed. Fidgeting, biting and kicking is common, especially among young horses. Young, nervous horses may be well-trained and comfortable around their owners, but the presence of two men they may have never seen before (or haven’t seen for weeks) could be alarming.
In our experience, correct handling and a calm tone is enough for the majority of horses, however since using the mini Horslyx we’ll never look back. Gone are the days of being locked into what feels like a wrestle with a young horse, now we can simply hold a Horslyx and the previously difficult horse is now standing still, unbothered by what we are doing to their feet. They are no longer interested in us!
Where Mini Horslyx really earns its place
The obvious answer is everywhere. But here’s what we hear most from the people who use it regularly.
In the stable, it’s a gamechanger for anything that requires a horse to stand still and stay relaxed, clipping, bandaging, wound care, veterinary visits. Horses that would normally spend those sessions trying to escape have something genuine to focus on that they want to engage with. The licking action encourages natural foraging behaviour, giving horses something to engage with.
In the lorry or trailer, Mini Horslyx is a practical addition to any journey. The familiar taste and steady licking activity give horses something to focus on, and having one already in place before loading can help make the transition from yard to transport a smoother one. For horses that find travel less straightforward, keeping routines as consistent as possible matters, and a lick they know from home is one less thing that’s unfamiliar.
On the competition circuit, it’s reliable. It doesn’t need to be mixed, measured, or refrigerated. It travels well, it stores well, and horses that have had it at home will take to it happily away from home to which matters when you’re at a show and everything else is unfamiliar.
And for farriery and physio as Katie and Abbie will tell you, it’s simply useful. Any professional working hands-on with horses knows that a horse that’s focused, calm, and giving you the benefit of the doubt makes the job safer and more effective for everyone.
A product that earns its place on every yard
Mini Horslyx isn’t trying to replace anything in your feeding programme. It’s the thing you reach for when you need your horse to be a little more settled, a little more focused, or simply a little easier to work with. It’s what you put in the lorry before a competition. What you hang in the stable before the vet arrives. What your farrier and physio quietly appreciate is already there when they turn up.
