(Re)Introducing Cara Shardlow

Another of our fantastic 2014 Ambassadors, Cara Shardlow, is continuing with us into 2015! Here’s everything you need to know about Cara and her team:

“Hello my name is Cara Shardlow, I have been lucky enough to be chosen as a Horslyx Ambassador for a second year. It was a brilliant experience last year, my horses loved having their licks and I loved promoting the Horslyx products and having their support.”

“I am a dressage rider but do still event a little bit, more as a hobby now. I run my own livery yard near Whitby North Yorkshire and teach freelance. 2014 was a fantastic year for me and my horses, not only did I get married but had great success competing. I went to my first BD National championships, had my highest placings at regional level, won at the Home International and the area festival at Advanced Medium, then to end the year I competed at my first Prix St George on my homebred horse. 2015 has a lot to live up to!!”

“I have four/five horses to compete this year at various levels:

Rhythmic Times is homebred and will be 16 this year, he successfully evented with me before we switched to dressage. We have gone up through the grades together culminating in both of us doing our first PSG last year, just unaffiliated to practice but it was a dream come true! He has competed on Northern teams in the past and last year won the area festival qualifying him for the finals in April. He has had a lot of health problems in the past and I was thinking of semi retiring him this year but he is going better than ever so we will see what happens and just keep going for the moment.”

“Detonator is a nine year old by Demonstrator. I bought him as a newly broken three year old and again have come up through the grades doing his first PSG last year. He has had many successes, we have competed for England at four Home Internationals winning at the last two. He was the first horse to get me to the winter nationals, he has also won two area festivals and been reserve champion at the finals. I have huge hopes for him and would love to do Grand Prix on him one day.”

“Measure For Measure is rising six years old and home bred intended for eventing. Last year was not the best for him he got a lot of little injuries which kept him from competing for most of the year. When he did finally get out he won every time at novice level and just missed out on qualifying for the regionals by 1 pt. He will hopefully do some eventing this year and hopefully qualify for the BD summer regionals.”

“Sandonista is a very large rising five year old who I bought as a yearling and has just never stopped growing! I stopped measuring him at 17.3hh! Because of this he had a very easy 2014 and just started competing towards the end of the year but has won every test except one, I’m really looking forwards to seeing how he comes on this year.”

“Morena is rising four year old homebred who I will soon start to break in. She is stunning, moves very nicely and if all goes to plan she will be out at her first competitions in the summer.”

“The first major outig is next week at the Northern regionals where Rhythmic Times and Detonator will be competing. Then, in April, Rhythmic Times is going to the winter nationals at Hartpury to contest the Pet Plan advanced medium finals, I can’t wait for this as I love competing there and just hope he can keep up his good form.”

“I am now qualified to upgrade my rider group which will enable me to compete at affiliated PSG. As soon as I get this I’ll will be working towards competing at some Premier leagues hopefully doing my first one in May, this will be a huge step up and I will be competing against some of the top riders in the country – scary but very exciting!”

“Rhythmic Times and Detonator have already qualified for the summer regionals at advanced medium, it would be fantastic If I could get the other two qualified as well at novice level. The Home International is in August this year and I will see how they have all gone by early summer and decide who I might put forwards for selection, it would be great if I could get on the team for a fifth year in a row but there is a lot of work and good results to get before then.”

“So, I have a lot planned and will be trying to fit in some eventing as well. It’s going to give me huge piece of mind that I have the support of Horslyx for the year and that all the horses will be getting the vitamins and minerals that they need from their licks to keep them healthy and fit to compete, especially Rhythmic Times with the help of his mobility licks.”
